Ugly Squeeze Page Gets Higher Conversion

July 20, 2010 – 4:21 am

This morning my Manager came in, pretty disgusted at some thing that I had performed.

The night previous to I experienced sent out an email having a link to a squeeze page that I had designed, and she was absolutely repulsed by how ugly it was! She told me that with the fabulous graphic designer that we have offered in-house, I could have had a a lot far better shopping squeeze site produced to the campaign I was doing.

She even went on to say that my web designer was hurt because I had made such an abomination! (It turns out he wasn’t hurt, he was in fact happy to see me develop such a piece of dirt as it secures his job further)

I patiently listened to her continue on about how I need to supply greater top quality internet sites to the encounter of my visitors. Right after she was performed and experienced gone to work, I looked at the stats how the squeeze web page had produced overnight:

55% conversion rate!

Why on earth would this ugly squeeze web page get a whopping 66.22% conversion rate when properly created pages struggle to obtain 20%? Well, I’ll let you in on the secret. The site visitors were “sold” previous to they even got on the squeeze web site!

You see, I was emailing my own visitors about an affiliate software that was happening within the next couple of days. In my email I explained all the advantages of utilizing this system, and told them that if they wanted to learn additional then they needed to sign up at that squeeze page.

When people went towards the squeeze web site they already knew they wanted to sign up. Obviously some backed out (33.78% to be exact), but that could have been for a variety of factors, 1 possibly being how ugly my page was!

So what can we understand from this interesting encounter?

1. Relationship building is crucial

Should you do not have a wonderful romantic relationship with your readers then offering is going to be Incredibly challenging.

2. Pre-selling is king

As my excellent friend Todd Gross says, pre-selling is critical to generating a ton of cash as a result of affiliate marketing (or through promoting your very own items).

Where do you pre-sell? Everywhere! In particular your emails, your videos, your blog posts, your articles, and anywhere else previous to the visitor is asked to buy.

Mainly because the visitors towards the ugly squeeze page graphics had been pre-sold, they didn’t care how poorly written and ill conceived the page was - they already knew they desired it.

3. Prettiness isn’t usually essential

In reality, I’ve discovered that the far more “good looking” a web page is, the lower it performs.

Maybe this is due to the actuality how the graphics are distracting, or possibly it’s mainly because little (or no) time is put into delivering a helpful, consistent, valuable message. Whatever the cause, I suggest you try removing the header graphics, fancy animated gifs, and other “pretty-factors” from your squeeze and sales pages and see what happens.
